Rathlin tests Kirkham Abbey formation at West Newton

Rathlin Energy (UL) Ltd. started a test program for West Newton WNB-1z and WNA-2 appraisal wells at PEDL183, East Yorkshire.

At WNB-1z, 118 m of hydrocarbon column was drilled, and 44 m of the Kirkham Abbey formation was perforated. The formation is naturally fractured, confirmed by imaging log, core, SEM photomicrographs and fluid injection rates of 5.7 bbl/min (8,208 b/d). Good quality gas was recovered and incinerated at surface. Gas analysis indicates about 90% methane, 4.5% ethane, and no H2S, which matches signatures from WNA-1 and WNA-2 wells.
