Legal action calls into question Fitbit’s accuracy

A study has been used to amend a class-action lawsuit filed against fitness tech company Fitbit in the USA. The legal action argues the marketing surrounding Fitbit’s PurePulse technology, used in its high-end devices the Surge, Blaze and Charge HR, is misleading, and the devices do onto measure heart rates as accurately as advertised. The legal team behind the lawsuit funded the study, in which researchers monitored 43 people wearing the devices, as well as a a Zephyr Technology BioHarness and a single-channel ECG sensor. In a statement, Fitbit said the study “lacked scientific rigor and was the product of flawed methodology”.
