Lithium was the word this week, with miners of the rare metal seeing strong demand boosted by reports the UK government is pressing ahead with plans to ban sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040.
Lithium is a key component of the batteries used to power electric vehicles (EV), which the government hopes people will start switching to as it looks to do its part in the global fight to reduce emissions.
Other European governments have made similar commitments to banning sales of gas guzzlers, and the major carmakers are starting to focus more of their resources on hybrid and EV development.
