Over the last few weeks something strange has been happening on the global stock markets. Of course, markets have become more volatile, sell-offs more common but over the last month, emerging markets have substantially outperformed.
As the Accumulator data table shows, emerging markets were up 5.1 percent in pound terms in the rolling month to last Thursday, with India rallying 6.5%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng 6.2 percent higher, Russia up 6 percent and Asia Pacific stocks rallying 4.5 percent. Over the same period, global stock markets were up just 0.7 percent and the FTSE 100 slumped 2.1%.
