Full Report: Vietnam
Predictions
- Pressure on economy, particularly tourism industry, will encourage government to slowly resume international travel
- Risk of second wave of COVID-19 infections means government restrictions will remain strict and international travel will be disrupted for several more months
- Government will prioritise business travel over tourism, and prioritise access for countries that have slowed spread of COVID-19 domestically
Event
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on 9 June that the government will allow flights to resume to and from countries which have confirmed no new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases for a minimum of 30 days, though he gave no timeline for this resumption. The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control also said on 28 May it was considering allowing tourism to resume to a small number of popular island destinations, before separately saying it would “pause” the reopening of international tourism due to the risk of infection from abroad. Prior to this, the government said on 25 May it will resume issuing electronic visas (e-visas) for citizens from 80 countries from 1 July.
