Augean North Sea Services (ANSS) have successfully completed a large work scope in the first “Piece Small” decommissioning project to take place
in North East Scotland. Working with NorSea on behalf of Endeavour Energy, more than 1000 tonnes of concrete mattresses and related subsea
equipment from the Renee / Rubie fields were received into ANSS’ Blackdog centre North of Aberdeen.
The mattresses were then cleaned by High Pressure Water Jetting to remove silt and before shipment to Augean’s Port Clarence facility. It was essential to the project that as many of these mattresses as possible could be recycled. Working in tandem with Augean’s Energy and Construction
division, ANSS have provided reuse options for 100% of the mattresses received and are using the lessons learned to identify improved working practices and novel reuse options for future mattresses returned to
shore.
