Real wages are growing at the fastest pace in two years as inflation cools.
Pay including bonuses rose by 7.9pc in the three months ending in August, Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show, outpacing inflation of 6.7pc. The jump in earnings, which was among the fastest ever recorded, means total pay grew by 1.4pc in real terms.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said it was “heartening to see inflation falling and real wages growing, keeping more money in people’s pockets.”
