Pennant International has developed the Generic Hand Skills Trainer, commonly known as GenSkill, which serves as a stand-alone device designed to simulate the experience of working on aircraft components. This training tool focuses on the essential hand skills required for tasks within confined spaces, such as those accessed through panels in an aircraft fuselage.
The latest version, the Mark 2, enhances the original GenSkill by incorporating a functional low-voltage aircraft circuit. This addition allows trainees to develop not only their mechanical skills but also their avionic abilities. The Mark 2 offers a range of features aimed at expanding the scope of training. These include electrical harness fabrication, sheet metal work, and assembly tasks that mimic real-life aircraft scenarios, such as soldering and wire termination.
The device also enables users to test the system using a portable test set and includes a controlled fault harness, which can be swapped in place of the student’s harness to introduce deliberate faults for troubleshooting exercises. With up to 23 practical tasks available, the GenSkill Mark 2 offers a comprehensive and challenging training experience.
The GenSkill Mark 2 stands out as an advanced training tool that not only improves on its predecessor but also broadens the skillset of those working in aircraft maintenance and assembly.
