A young boy with a brain tumour whose parents sparked a Europe-wide manhunt when they whisked him away from hospital has shown the remarkable recovery he’s making.
Ashya King revealed to TV presenter Stacey Solomon that he enjoys riding his bike, playing with Lego and watching films, including his favourites, the Narnia series.
He was just five when his parents Brett and Naghemeh removed him from the ward at Southampton Hospital because they wanted him to have proton therapy in 2014.
The Kings were found in Spain a week later, and the mum and dad were arrested.
Later that year, the High Court ruled Ashya should go to Prague for the proton treatment and last year Mr King, from Hampshire, told how he was now at school and “cancer free”.
On the back of Aysha’s case, two new Proton Therapy Centres are due to be opened by the NHS in the UK this year – one in Manchester and another in London.
Describing her son’s recovery, Naghemeh said on daytime TV show Loose Women: “It’s amazing. It’s the sort of progress we as parents wanted him to make. We are thrilled.”
Brett continued: “He is not completely out of the woods but he is getting there.
“The amount of blessings we have had with him from him being paralysed in a bed to him being up and walking and playing with his sister and the dog is amazing. He’s coming on fine.
“His brain has had a big trauma and is now rewiring itself.”
