Arbuthnot funds Beltline’s acquisition of expert packaging

Arbuthnot Commercial ABL has arranged a £2.25 million funding package to support Beltline’s acquisition of Expert Packaging, which aligns with the group’s ongoing expansion strategy in the corrugated cardboard industry. The funding consists of a customised package, including a confidential invoice discounting line and a term loan, aimed at facilitating the acquisition. This package also offers additional working capital post-acquisition, alongside fresh equity contributions from a high-net-worth investor.

This recent acquisition follows Beltline’s earlier purchases of First Packaging Services and Leighton Packaging in late 2023. Beltline sees the acquisition of Expert Packaging as a significant milestone that enhances its revenue and profit potential, with an ambitious management team set to contribute to the group’s next phase of growth.

The Beltline group operates from three locations across the North West of England, including Expert Packaging’s recently renovated 15,000 square-foot warehouse in Bury. The group provides a range of services that span from manufacturing to the wholesale of corrugated cardboard packaging, as well as related ancillaries and consumables.

Adam Crichton-Prince, Director of Expert Packaging Ltd, praised Arbuthnot Commercial ABL for their straightforward and efficient support during the acquisition process. He highlighted the responsiveness of their team and the user-friendly nature of their systems, emphasising that, as part of the larger group, Expert Packaging is now in a solid position to grow beyond its £8 million turnover. Crichton-Prince noted that the company’s success is rooted in outstanding customer service, and he expressed optimism about collaborating with other businesses within the group to drive future growth. He also mentioned the promising opportunities this new phase offers for both Expert Packaging and its customers.

Andrew Rutherford, Commercial Director at Arbuthnot Commercial ABL, commented on Beltline Capital’s strategic approach in building a diverse group of specialist companies within the packaging sector. He noted that Expert Packaging’s strong emphasis on customer service and its impressive growth make it an ideal addition to Beltline’s strategy. Rutherford expressed enthusiasm about supporting buy-and-build transactions that enable expansion of service offerings and geographical reach. He added that Arbuthnot’s facilities provide Beltline with the additional flexibility to pursue further acquisitions, and he looks forward to supporting Beltline’s continued buy-and-build strategy in the future.
