Arbuthnot Latham’s new chapter in Finsbury Circus

Arbuthnot Latham has had a presence in the City of London for nearly two centuries, and its recent move to a new office at Finsbury Circus is a significant milestone in its long history. The bank has taken over a grand 19th-century building, blending modern interior design with advanced technology while preserving the structure’s traditional architecture. Throughout its history, Arbuthnot Latham has moved several times within a small radius, from its early headquarters on Great St. Helen’s to this latest location, maintaining close proximity to key financial institutions such as the Bank of England.

In recent years, Arbuthnot Latham has expanded beyond London, establishing offices in Manchester, Bristol, and Exeter to better serve clients nationwide. However, the transition to the new Arbuthnot House at 20 Finsbury Circus represents a major step forward, with the goal of providing a contemporary space that enables the team to offer optimal client support.

The bank’s new headquarters is located in an area steeped in history. Finsbury Circus, part of the Upper Walbrook Valley, has seen human activity dating back to prehistoric times, and evidence of a Roman cemetery lies beneath part of the site. The area has been shaped over centuries, from the creation of London’s first public park at Moor Fields in the 1600s to the development of the Finsbury Estate in the late 18th century, led by George Dance the Younger. Dance, who designed several notable British landmarks, began work on Finsbury Circus following the demolition of Bethlehem Hospital in 1814.

Finsbury Circus’ central gardens have long served as a retreat for city workers, but they are currently closed for renovation. The City of London Corporation is overseeing improvements, including new plantings, seating, and enhanced accessibility, with completion expected in 2024. The revamped gardens, the largest open public space in the City of London, will soon reopen to the public.

Arbuthnot Latham is pleased to be part of this historic location and looks forward to welcoming clients to the new office. With an entire floor dedicated to client meeting rooms, designed for comfort and privacy, the bank offers tailored spaces for larger events and in-house catering services. The relationships with private and commercial clients remain the core focus, and the new office is intended to further strengthen these connections.
