Arria NLG plc to be granted patent to automate real-time data analysis

Arria NLG plc (AIM:NLG), a technology leader in the development and deployment of Natural Language Generation (“NLG”), is to be granted a patent on its Method and Apparatus for Annotating a Graphical Output from the US Patent and Trademark Office, its ninth patent to date. The Company’s Chief Scientist, Prof. Ehud Reiter, created this important new feature, part of the Arria NLG Platform.

The patent covers new features of Arria NLG’s products, which automate real-time data analysis and generate reports using language that follows intuitive rules for how humans communicate and comprehend information.

The innovations protected by the new patent tie together graphs and graphical annotations with the corresponding narrative in natural language reports that the Arria NLG software generates. For example, placing one’s cursor on a graphical element can cause the corresponding report section to be highlighted for ease of reference. The patented features will be deployed to strengthen the integration of language and graphical elements in the Company’s products. As with the Company’s other recent patents, the covered features are desirable in any NLG system, not only Arria NLG’s advanced Reiter & Dale model language generation system.

The new patent is part of a broad diversification plan that Arria NLG has instituted to enhance versatility and improve ease of use, as well as to increase the analytic power and actionable conclusions of its NLG products.

Arria NLG remains on track to launch Recount, its first software as a service (“SaaS”) product offering these features and others, to accountants and financial managers worldwide, later this year. Additionally, the Company expects to introduce Software Development Kit (SDK) 5.0, an automated NLG report-generating software toolkit permitting developers, without NLG training, to embed Arria NLG analytics and reporting into their software and websites.

Stuart Rogers, Chairman and Chief Executive of Arria NLG, stated: “This Arria NLG patent further integrates graphical displays with narrative text in the Company’s NLG products, thereby enhancing user experience and providing the business or engineering user with actionable information in a simple yet comprehensive form.

“We will continue to invest in patenting our IP on an ongoing basis and are pleased to secure our ninth patent to date and sixth in 2016. We see it as essential to protect our products and critical processes as we safeguard our position as one of the leading developers of AI and NLG innovations.”
