Research published in the journal Molecules, found 6 common artificial sweeteners approved by the Food and Drug Administration and 10 sport supplements which contained them to be toxic to the digestive gut microbes of mice.
The study was carried out by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
The artificial sweeteners researchers from the universities focus was on aspartame, sucralose, saccharine, neotame, advantame and acesulfame potassium-k.
