Firering Strategic Minerals hits aggregate production milestone

Firering Strategic Minerals is making waves in Zambia with its Limeco quicklime project achieving nameplate capacity for aggregate production. This marks a major milestone for the emerging quicklime producer and critical minerals explorer as it advances its multi-revenue stream strategy while capitalising on Zambia’s burgeoning industrial sector.

The company’s ability to produce 350,000 tonnes per year of aggregate demonstrates its focus on efficiency and local market alignment, with the material already being utilised by industrial customers across the region. In a significant boost to its operations, Firering’s aggregate production surged by nearly 59% in Q4 2024 compared to the previous quarter, reaching an impressive 84,702 tonnes. This remarkable growth follows infrastructure upgrades, including the installation of a new primary crusher in mid-2023, which has elevated production capacity to over 30,000 tonnes per month. The result is not only increased output but also a substantial improvement in operating cash flow, underscoring the project’s financial robustness.

With the first production of its core quicklime product imminent, Firering is now poised to further capitalise on the Limeco project’s potential. The company’s Chief Executive, Yuval Cohen, highlighted the dual benefits of the completed renovations. By optimising the crushing plant and repurposing waste streams into high-quality aggregate, Firering has achieved a strong operational edge while significantly reducing material waste. Cohen affirmed that the focus remains firmly on scaling up quicklime production to full capacity by year-end, a move that will enhance Firering’s position as a key player in Zambia’s industrial landscape.

Once fully operational, Limeco’s quicklime production capacity will range between 600 and 800 tonnes per day, supported by an extensive 50-year life-of-mine. This positions the Limeco project as a cornerstone of Zambia’s Copperbelt region, strategically aligned to meet the expanding demands of copper production. Firering’s progress reinforces its vision of becoming the leading quicklime producer in Zambia while delivering sustainable, long-term value for its stakeholders.
