Spot gold climbed to a high of $1,320.22 earlier today – its best rate since 28 February, 2019 – before settling back to $1,316.64 at just after 12.30PM UK time. Palladium rose to a fresh record high of $1,620.53 an ounce. The rise of gold today comes amid concerns of an incoming economic slowdown after the Fed downgraded the US growth, unemployment and inflation forecasts. It comes as the central bank brought its three-year drive to tighten monetary policy to an abrupt end, and released details of a plan to end the monthly reduction of its balance sheet.
