Ilika advances solid-state EV battery breakthrough

Ilika has achieved a major breakthrough in solid-state battery technology, successfully prototyping a 50Ah Goliath EV battery. This milestone brings the company closer to revolutionising electric vehicle performance with longer range, faster charging, and lower costs.

The development is part of the Faraday Battery Challenge ‘HISTORY’ programme and positions Ilika to optimise the battery for commercial viability. Following successful feasibility tests at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre, the company has now entered a phase of further refinement based on early test results. This builds on its achievements in 2024, including commercial testing, initial customer shipments, and safety validations.

Ilika plans to launch a full-scale build and test programme in the latter half of 2025, with the goal of releasing evaluation-ready batteries by year-end. This significant step underscores Ilika’s readiness to engage with automotive partners, strengthening its position in the EV battery market. CEO Graeme Purdy highlighted the company’s commitment to leveraging the UK government’s £2bn funding for transport electrification to accelerate Goliath’s commercialisation.

Ilika plc (LON:IKA) is a pioneer in solid state battery technology enabling solutions for applications in Industrial IoT, MedTech, Electric Vehicles and Consumer Electronics.
