The deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman has ordered his ministry to finalise plans to establish a Proton Beam Therapy center in Israel. The announcement came after Litzman returned to Israel this week from a visit to the United States.
Proton therapy is a type of radiation treatment that uses a charged particle called protons to treat cancer. It is a more accurate form of radiation treatment that allows the treatment of cancerous tumours while significantly minimising harm to nearby organs. It is especially advantageous in treating brain tumours in children.
Advanced Oncotherapy (LON:AVO) is developing a unique, fully integrated, proton therapy system. The LIGHT System is expected to be the first commercially available linear proton accelerator for medical treatment of cancer patients.
Our next generation of particle therapy system is designed to pinpoint tumours more precisely and with greater conformity, thereby potentially offering patients less damage to surrounding healthy tissues and higher disease-free survival rates.
