Personalised learning is not a new phenomenon; allowing a child to study chosen subjects, at what level, for how long and at what age, was the very first type of personalised learning that we could capture. However, more recently, there has been a greater emphasis in more physical environments within the state and independent sectors, looking at how we can engage and encourage all children, regardless of their level or ability.
Essentially, personalised learning is one-to-one. For example, if you hired a personal trainer or a private tutor, the purpose is to focus on the individual and assess their level of performance. The trainer or tutor then designs a programme or course to support the individual at that level in order to improve. Over time, they look at how the individual is responding to the tailored course or activity and make adjustments depending on the progress.
