In an era of converging external pressure points, it now falls under the remit of Chairs and non-executive directors to discuss behaviours, values and culture and to have an opinion on whether these align with the overall purpose of an organisation.
It takes Boards into areas where, in years gone by, they may have feared to tread. During Criticaleye’s Chair and Non-executive Director Forum, held in association with Accenture, questions were asked about the role of the Board in implementing a high-performing culture.
Devyani Vaishampayan, NED at Saietta Group and a Board Mentor at Criticaleye, told attendees: “Good Boards are using a few different lenses to focus on culture. The first clearly is this whole nebulous concept of, ‘Do we have the right culture and values? Are we able to measure it?’
