Industry experts believe that in order to achieve sustainable goals in the palm oil industry, the traditional belief that sustainability requires complex certification processes and premium prices must be abandoned. They argue that sustainability should be incorporated throughout the entire value chain.
At the RSPO annual roundtable and symposium, a panel discussed the link between sustainability in the palm oil sector and costly certification processes and higher prices that have been in place for decades. The panel suggested that to achieve significant progress in sustainable palm oil, the industry needs to let go of these outdated concepts.
