“Classic” Azure Virtual Machines to be fully retired – urgent action required

Virtual Machines provisioned using the old Azure Service Manager control plane are to be fully retired on the 1st March 2023. Any customers that have Virtual Machines using the platform that cannot be decommissioned need to prepare for migration to the Azure Resource Manager platform as soon as possible.

On 1st March 2023, customers will no longer be able to start IaaS VMs by using ASM. Any that are still running or allocated will be stopped and deallocated.

Azure Resource Manager has been the control plane within Azure for several years now. Over 90% of IaaS VMs are deployed using this method and it gives a host of benefits.
