DG Innovate unveils groundbreaking motor prototype for sustainable mobility

DG Innovate plc, a leader in sustainable mobility and energy storage research, has successfully delivered a 450kW prototype motor to Meritor Electric Powertrain Systems (UK) Ltd, part of the Pareta® project backed by the Advanced Propulsion Centre. This cutting-edge motor, designed and manufactured by DG Innovate, weighs just 180kg yet provides an industry-leading torque density. It achieves a notable 97.3% efficiency when paired with DGI’s inverter and an impressive 98.5% efficiency from the motor itself, setting a high benchmark in energy efficiency.

An innovative cooling mechanism integrated into the motor enhances performance, enabling it to function reliably even under extreme conditions. Additionally, the motor features a parallel inverter architecture, offering built-in redundancy for consistent operation without interruptions. Meritor will now proceed with in-house testing, aiming to incorporate this motor into its ePowertrain product line, targeting original equipment manufacturers in heavy-duty applications.

The successful delivery underscores DG Innovate’s strategic position as a leading player in sustainable technology development. By focusing on innovation, high efficiency, and dependable performance, the company is well-positioned to seize growth opportunities within the sustainable mobility sector.

Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, DG Innovate’s CEO, praised the achievement, emphasising the engineering team’s skill and dedication in pushing motor technology forward. According to Bardenfleth-Hansen, delivering this advanced motor to Cummins-Meritor exemplifies DG Innovate’s commitment to providing clients with cutting-edge, reliable solutions that meet demanding industry standards.
