A cutting-edge electric motor has been successfully developed and delivered, incorporating DGI’s advanced Pareta® electric drive system. This innovative system utilises a dual motor and inverter configuration, offering built-in redundancy at the system level. Designed in collaboration with Cummins Inc., the motor supports both rotational and linear actuation, making it particularly suited for safety-critical applications. It is poised to serve as a modern replacement for air-actuated brakes in commercial vehicles, with electro-mechanical brakes being a key focus area.
The project follows the signing of a Joint Development Agreement between DGI and Cummins in early 2024, with the first units delivered in June of the same year. This electric actuator introduces a host of benefits over traditional systems, including faster safety-critical response times, enhanced compatibility with modern vehicle architectures, and greater precision. It also offers advantages in energy efficiency, packaging, maintenance, and reduced environmental impact, making it a promising solution for applications like electric steering and braking. The emphasis on advanced safety and operational efficiency is positioning DGI’s technology as a sought-after component in the evolving landscape of commercial vehicle systems.
Currently undergoing rigorous testing and validation, including compliance with technical and ASIL-D certification standards, the motor is expected to enter high-volume production once approved. This achievement reflects the expertise and commitment of DGI’s engineering team to deliver cutting-edge solutions. Their collaboration with Cummins underscores a shared mission to provide advanced, reliable technology to the automotive industry.
This milestone highlights DGI’s dedication to innovation and its ability to transform ideas into practical, impactful technologies that redefine industry standards.
