In today’s fast-paced flexible environment employees may hold two or more distinct jobs within a single organization. It’s essential for these employees that their learning management system (LMS) can efficiently link these different assignments.
Multiple assignment examples
Multiple assignments are found most commonly in organizations with multiple locations in close proximity, so they are typically more prevalent in densely populated countries. The industry verticals where multiple assignments are crucial include:
- Healthcare – Nurses or doctors working in more than one hospital or healthcare practice. For example, Alex is a nurse and works in Hospital B on Monday and Tuesday. He logs into the LMS and completes his training. Then on Thursday and Friday he goes to Hospital M, so he chooses the other location in the LMS. The branding changes, the learning path changes and requirements change.
- Automotive Service Centers – Certified engine mechanics working at various branches of a dedicated or authorized automotive repair shops/garages, etc.
- Retail – Most commonly in chains with multiple outlets, e.g fast food restaurants, coffee shops, bars and car dealerships.
Difference between job profiles and multiple assignments
To be clear, multiple assignments are not the same as different job profiles. With multiple assignments, an individual can have different compliance identities and be evaluated independently based on an assignment, as well as be awarded different training certifications.
The user has a single login with separate identities depending on the user’s assignments. This also enables the organization to track compliance needs based on responsibilities related to a particular assignment.
It also allows organizations to better target training based on person-specific categories according to that compliance identity.
