Over a million nurses, doctors and others working in the NHS will get a pay rise as part of a £3bn boost to the health service aimed at trying to bring down the enormous backlog in operations and scans due to the pandemic.
Across England, almost 140,000 people had waited more than 52 weeks to start treatment as of September this year – the highest number for any calendar month since September 2008, latest figures show. The data from NHS England also showed 1.72 million people had waited more than 18 weeks to start treatment in September.
