Geraldine Tchimbali, the Country Manager for Pensana, recently met with assessors from the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) International Secretariat, along with representatives from various government agencies and mineral industry companies, such as Tosyali, Catoca, and Endiama. The meeting underscored the strong dedication to transparency and high environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards within the country’s mining sector.
As a member of the EITI, Angola is one of over 50 countries committed to revealing detailed information throughout the extractive industry value chain. This includes the processes behind awarding extraction rights, tracking how revenues are distributed across government, and ensuring these funds benefit the public. The EITI sets a global standard for transparency and accountability in the sector.
Tim George, CEO of Pensana, expressed his support for the initiative, recognising EITI as an important framework for governments to maintain high standards of governance and transparency. He also highlighted that Angola’s involvement in EITI strengthens the country’s economic diversification efforts and enhances the confidence of international investors in Angola’s ability to develop significant projects.
Pensana’s participation in this visit reinforces its commitment to transparency and governance in Angola’s extractive industries, contributing to the country’s growing reputation as an investment destination.
