The Society of Petroleum Engineers Trinidad & Tobago Section is venturing onshore with Touchstone Exploration to uncover the complexities and opportunities within the Cascadura gas field. This prolific discovery, nestled within a highly structured fold and thrust belt, marks a significant breakthrough in Trinidad’s energy landscape.
Cascadura sits within the Herrera Formation, a geological setting characterised by multiple stacked thrust sheets, each holding vast hydrocarbon potential. These reservoir sands, originally laid down as deep marine turbidites, have been further shaped by strike-slip tear faults and extensional listric faults, adding a layer of complexity to the region’s subsurface dynamics. The integration of legacy data and the reprocessing of 3D seismic volumes have been instrumental in unlocking a much deeper understanding of this field, leading to what is considered one of Trinidad’s most significant onshore gas discoveries in a generation.
Join Gavin Elsley, Senior Geophysicist at Touchstone Exploration, as he shares insights into the evolution of this exciting play and the cutting-edge techniques being applied to maximise its potential. With over 25 years of experience spanning diverse basins from the Arctic to the tropics, Elsley brings a wealth of expertise in hydrocarbon exploration and structural interpretation.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, 27th March 2025, at 12:00 noon via Zoom, is free for SPE members. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge from a leading industry expert.
