Williams, one of the largest energy providers in the United States, manages a third of the nation’s energy supply. The company aims to deliver the best transport, storage, and delivery solutions for reliable, low-cost, low-carbon energy. In an effort to modernise its transmission network and make it future-ready, Williams initiated a multi-year programme focused on reducing emissions. However, the company faced a significant challenge: it lacked the capacity to fully quantify its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
To tackle this issue, Williams partnered with Context Labs, employing their Decarbonization-as-a-Service™ (DaaS™) platform and Asset Grade Data (AGD™) technology. This platform offers an all-encompassing solution to measure, monitor, and report GHG and criteria air pollutant emissions accurately. AGD™ technology integrates emissions data from various sources into a single, reliable dataset. This robust data foundation supports the DaaS™ platform, which includes advanced detection and quantification technologies from Context Labs’ partners, along with sophisticated big data and machine learning analytics tools, digital ledger technologies, and registration services. These components collectively facilitate a faster transition for customers towards sustainable energy practices.
By utilising the DaaS™ platform, Williams has significantly advanced its sustainability initiatives and developed the Williams Decarbonization Cloud (WDC). This service enhances the company’s ability to make real-time decisions, address stakeholder reporting requirements, and offer unique services that propel its journey towards Net Zero. With the WDC, Williams can now more accurately track carbon intensity throughout its supply chain and produce trusted environmental attributes, including low-carbon intensity certification. This not only opens new revenue streams but also positions Williams as a market leader at the forefront of the global energy transition.
Chad Zamarin, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategic Development at Williams, emphasised the impact of this technology: “By leveraging Context Labs technology, we will enable supply and delivery decisions that connect the cleanest energy sources to meet real-time energy needs across the country.”
Williams’ integration of Context Labs’ innovative technology marks a pivotal step in its strategy to reduce emissions and lead in the global shift towards sustainable energy.
