The trouble with technology is, it changes too frequently. By the time people start understanding and getting used to a term and its usage, there’s a new one doing the rounds. You could say that’s what happened with Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT). Both are hot terms in Information Technology circles, both are related to data, and both are slightly tough to grasp for a layman at first. It’s no wonder people keep confusing one for the other all the time.
But on a serious note, Big Data and IoT are two very different concepts. And this post is dedicated to highlighting the differences between the two in the simplest manner possible.
So shall we begin?
The Differences
Difference 1: What it revolves around
Big Data revolves around data or information that you receive and share. It is all about enabling organizations to use more of the data around them.
IoT is all about devices, solutions and services linked with these devices and solutions. It’s about collecting data, analyzing it in real time for events or patterns of interest, and making sure to integrate any new insight into the rest of your business.
