A “once in a generation opportunity” will change the face of the south side of the city, with dozens of projects worth £2 billion all with a 10 minute walk of each other, the city’s top planner has said.
More than 30 major schemes are currently on the way in the wider city centre, but the major focus is on the so-called ‘Southern Gateway’ – the entrance to the city from the south.
More projects are in the pipeline, such as the new office block next to the tram bridge on Arkwright Street (just to the south of the train station) and new apartments just across the road on Crocus Street.
Planning permission has also now been granted for the long-awaited Boots Island site between London Road and Manvers Street, which will see 900 flats and homes, a five-star hotel, and 666 student flats.
