Although sales of electric cars may be slowing in Great Britain, a group of former Tesla executives is revolutionizing the industry with an innovative approach to battery technology. DG Innovate, led by Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, Jochen Rudat, and Christian Eidem, aims to transform the electric car market by developing sodium batteries instead of traditional lithium batteries.
Unlike lithium, which requires mining operations, sodium is easily accessible from seawater, making it a more sustainable and cost-effective option. By adopting sodium batteries for electric cars, DG Innovate seeks to reduce Europe’s dependence on lithium mines in China and other regions outside of Europe.
The three executives are already planning to build a dedicated factory for sodium battery cell production, although this project may take some time to materialize. Once sodium battery technology matures, industry experts anticipate that its cost will be comparable or even cheaper than that of current lithium batteries.
