Regional disparities in NHS wait times for GP appointments

NHS patients in some parts of England are five times more likely to face a wait of more than three weeks to see their doctor than in places like London. The figures show that 13.1 million appointments occurred at practices in March and suggest a startling postcode lottery.

More than 2.8 million of these appointments were booked more than three weeks earlier, which equates to 9.4% of all appointments. It has climbed from 8.8% of appointments in February but has slightly improved when compared to the 9.5% seen in January. Despite this, patients are five times more likely to wait more than three weeks to see their GPs in some regions.
