Sheffield-based One Health Group, a provider of surgical services to the NHS, has reported significant growth in its annual financial results, driven by an increase in patient referrals and treatments. The company reported a turnover of £23.3m for the year ending 31 March 2024, marking a 14 per cent increase from £20.5m in 2022/23. Additionally, the underlying operating profit rose by 6 per cent, reaching £1.62m from the previous year’s £1.53m.
One Health saw a remarkable 13 per cent rise in new NHS patient referrals, totalling 13,266 for the year, setting a new record for the business. The number of surgical procedures performed also increased by 7 per cent, amounting to 6,169 operations. The company expanded its outpatient capacity by 13 per cent, bringing the total number of outreach clinics to 35.
To support this growth, One Health attracted 22 new surgical consultants, bringing the total to 63, with an additional 18 new surgeons expected to join in 2025. The company also secured new five-year contracts with the two largest commissioners starting from April 2024, replacing the previous annually renewed contracts. Furthermore, One Health has identified a site for its first surgical hub, which will provide additional ‘owned’ operating capacity.
Adam Binns, chief executive at One Health Group, highlighted the company’s strong performance over the last financial year. He noted that One Health demonstrated solid growth in both new and existing geographies, setting new records for turnover, NHS patient referrals, and surgical procedures. Binns also emphasised the role of ‘Patient Choice’ through the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) in driving direct NHS referrals. Additionally, One Health continued to support five individual NHS Trusts with their internal patient waiting lists, helping to alleviate pressure on the NHS.
The record number of new surgeons applying to work with One Health underscores the benefits the Group offers to the broader community of NHS patients.
