The Christmas trees are particularly bewitching, from the dozens standing proud besides yachts on the waterfront in the capital Bridgetown, bedecked in the national colours of blue and gold, to the show-stoppers on roundabouts, in hotel lobbies and restaurants.
Huge, brightly coloured ribbons cover the trees from tip to trunk, as if a Caribbean carnival has collided with the branches. Equally glitzy and glamorous, they would not look out of place on a catwalk. Welcome to Christmas, Bajan-style.
We stay at Treasure Beach, an adult-only boutique hotel on the west coast (also known as the Platinum coast), where we are treated to yet more spectacular colours as the sun sets each night. It would be all too easy to stay put but to do so would be to miss out.
At our hotel, we take full advantage of the complimentary water taxi, which runs between all Elegant Hotel properties, and enjoy a rum-pairing class at the Colony Club. Then it is dinner at Daphne’s beach side restaurant (sister restaurant of the famous London spot), where we enjoyed local seafood with an Italian twist.
Elegant Hotel Group (LON:EHG) owns and operates seven luxury freehold hotels and a beachfront restaurant, Daphne’s, on the island of Barbados. The Group’s portfolio currently comprises 588 rooms, making it twice as large (by room number) as the closest competitor in the Barbados luxury hotel room market. Six of the seven properties are situated along the prestigious west coast of Barbados commonly known as the “Platinum Coast”. The properties are all freehold, with a total aggregate plot size of approximately 23 acres and an aggregate beachfront of 2,600 feet.
