Close to one year ago, I left my chief data scientist role to lead a global data and AI team. This shift was one of many thousands of career shifts underway in the fast-growing data science and AI sector. Taking on a new leadership role and seeing my friends and colleagues navigate new roles and title changes during “the Great Reshuffle” prompted me to think a bit deeper about imposter syndrome and how it might specifically be impacting both new and seasoned data scientists today.
In a field as broad as data science, and perhaps in every field where a large amount of data has to be understood, uncertainty is constant. The good news is that managing this uncertainty in your favor may actually help you to get the most out of your specific expertise—and add to the strength of the field as a whole.
