Nurturing the next generation in finance

Time Finance is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of finance professionals, ensuring they are well-equipped to thrive in the industry. By aligning their core values—being bold, flexible, genuine, and prioritising people—with a commitment to enhancing the skillsets of emerging talent, the company focuses on shaping future salespeople, analysts, executives, and other key finance roles. This dedication to fostering new talent is evident in their efforts to bring fresh faces into the sector.

In a recent conversation with Tom Chambers, a 19-year-old Business Development Executive at Time Finance, Tom shared his experiences and insights after his first six months in the finance industry. Tom’s interest in finance was piqued early on, influenced by family members already working in the field. Despite starting with no prior knowledge of invoice finance, his journey at Time Finance has been one of continuous learning. Over the initial four months, Tom was immersed in the day-to-day operations, working closely with the Operations team before transitioning to Sales. This experience gave him a well-rounded understanding of the business, far surpassing his knowledge from the early days.

The company played a significant role in smoothing Tom’s transition from college to the professional world by providing an entry-level position that required no prior experience. They supported his development by offering comprehensive training and signing him up for an Invoice Finance exam, boosting his confidence and credibility with clients.

Tom’s first six months have been marked by several achievements, including completing his first two deals—one of which was particularly complex—and receiving the Rising Star award at the company’s annual conference. He credits much of his early success to the mentorship of Adrian Payne, Head of Sales in the South, who encouraged him to get hands-on experience with clients from the outset. Additionally, Tom has co-launched a LinkedIn group, “The Future of Invoice Finance,” aimed at helping other young professionals in the industry to connect and build their networks.

Tom’s initial successes have only fuelled his enthusiasm for his future in finance, and he looks forward to continuing to grow and make his mark in the industry.
