UK stores are disappearing from high streets at a rapid pace as consumers’ changing behaviours means they are increasingly shifting from shopping in-store to online.
A record net 2481 stores disappeared from the UK’s top 500 high streets in 2018 – 40 per cent more than in 2017, according to new data from PwC.
The 5833 store closures last year were not enough to offset store openings as only 3372 shops opened – excluding independent outlets.
