Sustainable BiomeEP resins deliver superior print quality and durability

Biome Technologies has developed the BiomeEP range, a series of innovative, sustainable resins that offer excellent print and adhesion characteristics. Designed for high production speeds, these resins, derived from potato and corn starch, deliver not only high-quality print results but also ensure strong, flexible, and tear-resistant films. Moreover, the BiomeEP resins are 100% biodegradable and compostable, making them an environmentally friendly option.

BiomeEP1, a potato-starch based resin, is noted for its outstanding print adhesion and wet-out properties, ensuring superior print quality and efficient lamination. To enhance stiffness, BiomeEP1 can be blended with BiomeEP2, a corn-starch based polymer. This blend results in a stronger, stiffer film without compromising the material’s biodegradability, compostability, or printability, making it ideal for high-speed, full-colour printing and lamination applications.

The certifications of these resins facilitate the certification process for the final product, provided that the inclusion of uncertified materials does not exceed 5%. The key properties of BiomeEP resins include full compliance with EN 13432, ASTM D6400, and Vinçotte OK compost standards, and their status as plasticiser-free, food contact approved (EU and FDA), grease-resistant, and 15% stronger than other bio-resins. Additionally, these resins are well-suited for high-speed printing with water or solvent-based inks and lamination where adhesive quality is crucial.

In terms of processing, BiomeEP resins are compatible with both mono and co-extrusion blown film lines, with extrusion temperatures typically lower than conventional polymers, resulting in energy savings. They are printable without pre-treatment, colourable with bio-masterbatches, and offer good sealability. Recyclability is also a feature, as waste from these materials can be re-granulated and reused with virgin material, typically up to 10-15%.

Biome Technologies is committed to sustainability from the start to the end of the product’s life cycle. The company strives for the highest possible bio-based content in all its products, and continuously works on enhancing the sustainability credentials of its range. Films made from BiomeEP1 and BiomeEP2 are fully biodegradable and compostable, ensuring they meet environmental standards and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Biome Technologies’ BiomeEP resins combine high performance with sustainability, offering excellent print quality, strength, and biodegradability, making them an ideal choice for environmentally conscious applications.
