Air Corsica has celebrated a significant milestone with the delivery of its ATR 72-600 aircraft, marking the 1,700th delivery for ATR Aircraft. This delivery completes Air Corsica’s transition from the ATR -500 series to the latest generation of turboprop aircraft, aligning with its goals of enhancing regional connectivity, reducing costs, and advancing sustainability initiatives.
In November 2022, Air Corsica became the first airline to receive an ATR 72-600 equipped with the new PW127XT engine. This advanced engine technology has led to a 20% reduction in maintenance costs and at least a 3% decrease in fuel consumption compared to its predecessor, the PW127M. Moreover, the ATR 72-600 with the PW127XT engine reduces CO2 emissions by 45% when compared to a similarly sized regional jet. With this latest delivery, Air Corsica now operates a fleet of seven ATR 72-600 aircraft, all powered by the PW127XT engines.
Marie-Hélène Casanova-Servas, President of Air Corsica’s Supervisory Board, highlighted the importance of this fleet renewal, emphasising the airline’s dedication to offering exceptional service and supporting the economic development of Corsica. She noted that the modern ATR 72-600 aircraft enhances operational efficiency and significantly minimises environmental impact, aligning with Air Corsica’s vision for sustainable air travel in Corsica. This investment ensures the island remains well-connected, fostering growth and opportunities for local communities.
ATR’s Chief Executive Officer, Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, remarked on the significance of this delivery, underscoring the strong partnership between ATR and Air Corsica. The milestone reflects ATR’s commitment to providing efficient and versatile aircraft that set the standard for regional connectivity. ATR continues to thrive in the regional aviation market, standing out for its ability to deliver cost-effective solutions that allow airlines to expand regional routes and explore new markets.
ATR has consistently demonstrated its strength in supporting airlines to build and maintain regional connectivity. The company’s ability to navigate the regional aviation market, even as competitors like Bombardier/De Haviland shift focus, highlights its resilience. ATR offers a range of aircraft, from the ATR42-600S, which can take off from short runways, to the larger ATR72-600, and specialised models for premium and special-mission operations, enabling it to cater to diverse market needs.
