Biome Bioplastics has introduced the BiomeEP line, a range of eco-friendly resins designed to support high-speed printing and lamination without compromising quality. Made from potato and corn-based starches, these resins exhibit enhanced adhesion and print clarity, ideal for production requiring strength, flexibility, and tear resistance. Both biodegradable and compostable, they offer a sustainable solution with certifications for complete biodegradability and compostability under standards such as EN 13432 and ASTM D6400.
The BiomeEP range includes BiomeEP1, a GM-free, potato-starch-based resin that provides superior print adhesion and lamination at high speeds. When combined with BiomeEP2, a corn-starch polymer, it produces a stronger, stiffer film while retaining its biodegradability, compostability, and excellent print quality. This blend of BiomeEP1 and BiomeEP2 enables customisation of film properties without compromising environmental standards, making it suitable for high-speed, full-colour applications and laminations that need durable adhesive qualities.
These resins are fully certified, streamlining the certification process for end products containing no more than 5% uncertified material. They are also 15% stronger than similar bio-resins, grease-resistant, and approved for food contact by both EU and FDA standards. They perform well on various film lines and can be processed at lower temperatures than traditional plastics, reducing energy consumption. BiomeEP resins require no pre-treatment for printing, are sealable, and can be coloured with compatible bio-masterbatches, while production waste can be re-granulated and reused with up to 10–15% virgin material.
Biome Bioplastics prioritises high bio-based content and strives to enhance the sustainability of its products. At the end of their life cycle, films produced with BiomeEP1 and BiomeEP2 fully biodegrade and compost according to global standards, making them a forward-thinking choice in sustainable material innovation.
