One in five people in the UK suffer from hay fever and this year it appears the season has got off to an early start. Weather plays an important role in the onset of the hay fever season, its severity and longevity. Weather conditions can influence pollen levels in the following ways:
Warm, dry and sunny weather can increase pollen production to produce high pollen levels
Dry and windy weather spreads pollen quickly, with a higher distribution of pollen.
Temperature can influence release of pollen. For grass pollen, temperatures between 18-28C can give a high count if its dry with low humidity and a breeze. With trees, a lower temperature of 13-15C is ideal for maximum production, higher than 28C and production decreases.
