Team Internet’s Moniker reinvigorates domain investor focus with new platform

About a decade after a disastrous platform switch that caused Moniker to lose much of its domain investor customer base, the domain registrar is now refocusing on domain name investors. This week, Moniker launched a new platform tailored specifically for domain investors, moving away from the end-user-focused platform it has been using in recent years. Marc McCutcheon from Team Internet Group, Moniker’s parent company, emphasised that all future developments on this platform will prioritise the needs of domain investors.

The new platform is modelled on Internet.bs, another registrar under Team Internet Group, which is popular among domain investors. It includes all the essential bulk tools demanded by domain investors, along with a couple of unique features to set it apart. One notable feature is called Treasury, designed to help investors protect their most valuable domains. Domains using the Treasury feature benefit from enhanced security, including a second two-factor authentication request for certain changes. There are plans to expand the Treasury features in the future.

Another interesting addition is the ability to add and track domains registered elsewhere, allowing investors to manage all their domains in one place and receive renewal alerts. External domains can also be added to Moniker DNS and managed within the Moniker account. Although support for Afternic and Sedo is not yet fully implemented, it will be completed once all existing Moniker customers have migrated to the new platform over the next month or two. McCutcheon also expressed interest in supporting emerging aftermarket platforms.

To attract domain investors, Moniker offers pricing tiers with discount levels at 100 and 500 total domains in the account, providing fixed discounts of 8% and 16%, respectively, on list prices. While this straightforward discounting method might be somewhat restrictive, leaving the best public .com price slightly higher than some other investor-focused registrars, larger customers might be able to negotiate further discounts with Moniker.

McCutcheon will be attending NamesCon in Austin next week to showcase the new platform and engage with domain investors.
