Building the future one apprentice at a time

Investing in talent is investing in the future. At Hercules, National Apprenticeship Week is a time to celebrate the next generation of skilled professionals shaping the company from within. One such talent is Sophie, a digital marketing apprentice whose journey exemplifies the power of hands-on learning and career development.

Sophie’s path to Hercules began through a work placement with Warwickshire Skills Hub. A timely networking opportunity led her to Hercules Academy, where she seized the chance to apply for a digital marketing apprenticeship. Opting for an apprenticeship over university, she embraced the opportunity to gain real-world experience while making a meaningful impact. Her application process included a two-stage interview, where she showcased her vision for the company with a mock campaign. Now, over a year later, Sophie has firmly established herself within the business.

One of the most rewarding aspects of her journey has been witnessing the growth of Hercules Academy. Joining before its formal establishment, she played a key role in building its online presence and expanding its reach. Seeing the Academy flourish has been a fulfilling experience, reinforcing her belief in the value of her contributions.

Her apprenticeship has provided opportunities beyond the traditional office setting. From creative workshop days in London to participating in apprentice-led programmes, Sophie has enjoyed networking with peers and experiencing a strong sense of autonomy in her role. These experiences have allowed her to refine her skills and gain confidence in her abilities.

Despite her enthusiasm for marketing, transitioning into the construction sector presented a challenge. Adapting her expertise to a complex and highly specialised industry required significant learning. However, this steep learning curve has ultimately been a rewarding experience, providing her with a robust skill set that continues to evolve.

Looking ahead, Sophie is committed to growing within Hercules. With a clear path for career progression, she is set to take on a more defined role as the Academy expands. She remains eager to explore new opportunities within the business and contribute to its continued success.

Beyond work, Sophie enjoys an active social life, travelling, and attending festivals. A science-fiction enthusiast, she finds inspiration in storytelling and creativity. Her well-being tip? Maintaining structure and routine while making the most of downtime to re-energise.
