CentralNic Registry attends the ICANN Contracted Parties Summit in Paris

In May, the CentralNic Registry team travelled to Paris for the ICANN Contracted Parties Summit (CPS). This event gathered gTLD registry operators and registrars to discuss a range of topics, including technical standards, DNS abuse, and ongoing policy streams that were initially presented at the ICANN meeting in Puerto Rico earlier this year.

The summit commenced with celebrations marking the recent ICANN contract changes aimed at mitigating DNS abuse for both registry operators and registrars. As the week progressed, discussions focused on enhancing tools and strategies to combat malicious activities within the DNS ecosystem. Additionally, the newly renamed Netbeacon Institute organised a dedicated day to address DNS abuse detection and mitigation on various platforms.

One major topic was the new Registration Data Policy, set to become effective in August 2025. This policy will bring changes in data handling and protection, shifting from WHOIS to RDAP, and introducing new contractual agreements between ICANN, registries, and registrars. Technical and operational sessions covered registry transition processes, technical evaluations, and improvements to the Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP). These discussions included updates on service level requirements and reporting protocols to ensure compliance with the new standards.

Overall, the ICANN Contracted Parties Summit (CPS) provided invaluable networking opportunities and facilitated collaborations with industry partners. The event allowed us to contribute to future policy implementations and technological advancements within the domain name industry.
