Nanoco joins up the dots for its patents fight with Samsung

The chief executive of a small Manchester-based technology company is “very confident” that his team will come out on top in a legal wrangle with Samsung that could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Nanoco is suing the South Korean technology giant in Texas, alleging that its QLED televisions use the British company’s technology without permission. In court papers, Samsung “denies committing any acts of infringement at any time”. Samsung declined to comment further “as this is an ongoing legal case”.

Nanoco overcame what it calls “the first of two major hurdles” this month when the US Patent Trial and Appeal Board ruled that each of the company’s five patents — and the 47 claims in those patents — were valid.

Nanoco Group PLC (LON:NANO) leads the world in the research, development and large-scale manufacture of heavy metal-free nanomaterials for use in displays, lighting, vertical farming, solar energy and bio-imaging.
