Powering safe crossings in the subsea cable boom

As the web of subsea pipelines and cables becomes denser, the challenge of safely navigating cable crossings grows more critical. With offshore renewable energy projects accelerating and legislation demanding safer separation standards, the need for reliable, proven protection is greater than ever.

Pipeshield is leading the way in addressing the increasing complexity of seabed infrastructure. As global subsea networks expand—particularly with the rapid deployment of Inter-Array and Export Cables in offshore wind, tidal, and wave energy developments—the importance of robust cable crossing solutions is surging. Pipeshield offers a comprehensive suite of cable protection products engineered to protect vulnerable infrastructure from free spanning, trawling, and impact.

At the core of Pipeshield’s offering is a stock-ready range of concrete mattresses, which both stabilise and shield subsea cables. These are complemented by frond mats and fronded concrete mattresses (FCMs) that reduce bottom water velocities and promote natural burial of the cable. For added protection, mattresses can be supplied with pre-fitted GEO-MAT geotextile layers or rubber pads, providing an extra non-abrasive buffer against seabed abrasion.

Where standard solutions may not suffice, Pipeshield’s bespoke concrete mattress design service ensures that any project—no matter how specialised—can benefit from purpose-built protection. Anti-scour structures are also available, preventing sediment movement and subsea instability, keeping operations secure and uninterrupted. Optional anti-abrasion fittings, including Neoprene or commercial-grade rubber pads, add another layer of resilience where needed.

Pipeshield is a specialist in subsea cable and pipeline protection, offering tailored, durable solutions to safeguard critical infrastructure in the world’s most demanding marine environments.
