Alphawave Semi powers into $4B AI connectivity market

Alphawave Semi, a global leader in high-speed connectivity and computing silicon, is reshaping the future of technology infrastructure. The company has revealed a new suite of cutting-edge optoelectronics products aimed at the booming semiconductor market, expected to surpass $4 billion by 2028. This innovative portfolio sets the stage for the company to meet the growing demand for accelerated AI-driven computing and high-speed interconnect solutions in hyperscale data centres.

Alphawave Semi’s newly launched portfolio targets the high-speed interconnect market with products engineered to support the next generation of AI infrastructure. Featuring Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) for PAM4 and Coherent-lite modulation, these products promise to enable seamless data transmission across vast data centre campuses. The new range of connectivity solutions will empower hyperscalers as they accelerate their AI compute capabilities. By leveraging their proprietary WidEye™ DSP architecture and EyeQ™ diagnostics technology, Alphawave Semi is delivering a future-proofed solution with 800G and 1.6T interconnect options, offering both electrical reach up to several metres and optical reach of up to 20 kilometres.

This new product lineup includes several groundbreaking components, now sampling for customers, such as the Cu-Wave™ PAM4 DSP for Active Electrical Cables (AEC), O-Wave™ PAM4 DSP for Optical Retimer and Gearbox Transceivers, and the Co-Wave™ Coherent-lite DSP for Optical Transceivers.

Alphawave Semi’s shift towards developing its own connectivity silicon products marks a significant milestone in the company’s strategy. Babak Samimi, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Connectivity Products Group, highlighted the company’s focus on PAM4 and Coherent-lite DSPs, emphasising their potential to become a trusted supplier for hyperscalers in the expanding high-speed semiconductor market. By leveraging advanced SerDes technology, precision analog systems, and their industry-leading signal integrity expertise, Alphawave Semi is well-positioned to drive the evolution of data centre architecture.

The company’s commitment to collaborating with leading North American hyperscalers, alongside key ecosystem partners, is set to deliver substantial market impact within the next 12 months. According to Vladimir Kozlov, CEO of LightCounting, Alphawave Semi’s entry into the PAM4 and Coherent-lite DSP market is poised to be highly disruptive, with the market set to see exponential growth, reaching over $4 billion by 2028. Alphawave’s entry into this select group of companies offering both solutions positions them to become a leader in this rapidly expanding space.

Tony Pialis, CEO of Alphawave Semi, further emphasised the strategic value of the Connectivity Products Group, which gives the company the flexibility to cater to diverse hyperscaler needs. Whether delivering custom-developed silicon products, IP subsystems, or off-the-shelf connectivity solutions, Alphawave is solidifying its position as a key player in AI connectivity and compute.
