Exclusive Siemens deal unleashes Alphawave Semi IP into high-speed market

Siemens EDA has made a strategic leap forward, positioning itself directly against industry giants Synopsys and Cadence by securing exclusive access to Alphawave Semi’s cutting-edge silicon IP. Previously reluctant to compete directly with customers who developed or sourced their own IP, Siemens EDA is now aggressively entering the high-speed interconnect IP market through this pivotal partnership.

This significant agreement with Alphawave Semi gives Siemens customers exclusive access to advanced IP solutions across connectivity and memory protocols, including Ethernet, PCIe, CXL, HBM, and innovative Die-to-Die (UCIe) implementations. Alphawave’s proven platforms, featuring 112G and 224G SERDES chip designs, extend capabilities into advanced nodes like 7nm, 6nm, and 5nm technologies, delivering powerful alternatives to IP offerings from Synopsys and Cadence.

The collaboration dramatically broadens Siemens’ reach, empowering customers with Alphawave’s silicon IP that effectively addresses critical interconnect bottlenecks and significantly accelerates data processing capabilities. Tony Pialis, CEO of Alphawave Semi, emphasises that the partnership substantially increases market penetration, enabling diverse industries to rapidly benefit from their advanced IP technologies.

Beyond traditional IP licensing, Siemens and Alphawave Semi are jointly addressing customer challenges in IP integration—a considerable overhead often encountered in IP development. Alphawave’s strategic evolution towards silicon chiplets underscores the value of this integration support, simplifying complex development processes for next-generation semiconductor designs.

Through Siemens EDA’s global sales channels, customers now have streamlined access to complete silicon IP solutions tailored for emerging sectors such as AI, autonomous vehicles, data networking, hyperscalers, and storage. This includes integrated IP for PHY, controllers, and comprehensive subsystems, covering speeds from 1Gbit/s to an impressive 224Gbit/s across more than 30 industry-standard protocols.

Mike Ellow, CEO of Siemens EDA, highlighted the transformative potential of this partnership, underscoring how it empowers Siemens customers to achieve technological breakthroughs in significantly reduced timescales. Alphawave’s multi-channel Ethernet, PCIe/CXL combinations, Die-to-Die streaming solutions, and HBM3E memory controllers set a new benchmark for performance, efficiency, and innovation across critical growth industries, including data centres, telecom, cloud computing, AI, network processing, and 5G wireless technology.

By aligning with Alphawave Semi, Siemens Digital Industries Software further solidifies its status as a vital partner in advancing silicon IP for AI and hyperscaler environments, simplifying system-on-chip (SoC) development and accelerating time-to-market.

Siemens EDA, a division of Siemens Digital Industries Software, offers comprehensive electronic design automation solutions critical for digital innovation and semiconductor industry leadership.
