Visiting Valkor’s flagship project in Utah was a remarkable experience, providing a firsthand look at the major advancements shaping what could become a world-class energy production hub. With an estimated 77 billion barrels of recoverable oil, this site has the potential to redefine the future of sustainable fuel solutions.
On a crisp morning, I had the opportunity to tour the site alongside Valkor CEO Steven Byle. We visited the first two operational oil wells, a major milestone in a broader development initiative. This progress follows the successful approval of Valkor’s site unitisation plans and the completion of a significant project financing deal. These achievements pave the way for the company’s ambitious expansion, with permit applications for an additional 15 wells—each producing 40 barrels per day—and the construction of Valkor’s first mined oil sands processing facility.
A crucial aspect of my visit was discussing the strategic partnership between Quadrise and Valkor. Our recently signed Site License and Supply Agreement marks a key milestone, underlining Valkor’s commitment to integrating Quadrise’s innovative technology into its operations in 2025. The first license fee revenues have already been received, reinforcing the strong collaboration between our two companies.
One of the most compelling attributes of Valkor’s Utah oil is its naturally low sulphur content and reduced carbon intensity when compared to conventional refined fuels. This makes it an ideal choice for both industrial-scale fuel consumers and the marine market, where tightening emissions regulations are driving demand for cleaner, lower-carbon alternatives.
However, the Utah heavy oil’s high viscosity presents logistical challenges in transportation. Quadrise’s proprietary emulsion technology provides an effective solution, significantly reducing viscosity and allowing the oil to flow as a stable liquid fuel. This breakthrough enables seamless transportation to key markets, including major power and marine sector customers at bunkering hubs along the US Gulf Coast and the Port of Los Angeles.
Standing in the vast Utah landscape, it was clear to me that this project holds immense promise. The successful production from the first wells, the securing of crucial funding, and a well-defined roadmap for scaling up operations all point toward a bright future. Quadrise is set to play a pivotal role in optimising efficiency and sustainability, demonstrating the transformative potential of our partnership with Valkor.
This visit reinforced my confidence in our collaboration and our shared dedication to innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. As we progress, the next phases will be instrumental in shaping the future of clean and efficient fuel solutions. I am proud that Quadrise is at the heart of this journey, helping to drive a more sustainable energy landscape. I look forward to returning to Utah soon to witness further progress firsthand.
