Alphawave Semi expands presence in South Korea to boost IP sales

Alphawave Semi is planning to establish an office in South Korea to enhance its IP sales to local fabless chip companies. Currently, it maintains a small team in the country, with its headquarters providing direct support to fabless and design house customers in South Korea.

As a chipless firm, Alphawave Semi offers IP and application-specific integrated circuit design services to its clients. It actively collaborates with foundries that manufacture these chips. The company is a TSMC IP Ecosystem Partner, a member of Samsung’s IP Alliance, and part of Intel’s IP Alliance, supplying IPs to all three major foundries. However, its design services are exclusively provided to TSMC, where it is a member of the Taiwanese chip giant’s Value Chain Alliance (VCA). Other VCA members include Asicland of South Korea and GUC, with Alphawave Semi offering its design house service primarily to North America and Europe for TSMC.

In February, Alphawave Semi signed a significant design house service contract with South Korean AI chip firm Sapeon, valued at 59.6 billion won. The collaboration focuses on designing Sapeon’s X430 chip, which utilises TSMC’s 5-nanometer node, chip-on-wafer-on-substrate packaging, and high-bandwidth memory (HBM).

Alphawave IP Group plc (LON:AWE) is a semiconductor IP company focused on providing DSP based, multi-standard connectivity Silicon IP solutions targeting both data processing in the Datacenter and data generation by IoT end devices.
